My parents met while working in hotels, and I grew up in-and-out of hotels. I can't remember a lot of the details; it's a blur of mini-fridges and spectacular views. But I do remember feeling absolutely protected by the hotels. There were always many locked doors standing between me and the real world, but with people to meet literally around every corner. I saw, and didn't see, how people lived. This installation was my dream come true, to bring guests into my own tiny corner of the world, and to hear about theirs. Because all rooms do eventually connect.
This exhibition was an extension from my 2012 RISD undergrad thesis, which was a series of projects about unusual ways to collect memories.
